EleVen by Venus Williams is a fashion-forward activewear line created by the tennis champion to celebrate individuality. The latest launch, dubbed the Ikat Stripe collection, speaks to that exact message with its striking prints in coral, gray, and navy.

Fashion is something that the four-time Olympic gold medalist, and sister of Serena, has always loved. The 38-year-old star got her associate degree in fashion design from the Art Institute of Fort Lauderdale in 2007 and in 2015, she earned her Bachelor of Science in business administration from Indiana University East.

Now, she's debuting spring workout gear under $100. Williams spoke to Oprahmag.com in time for her big release.

What was the inspiration behind your new collection?"To be loud and proud! The first step in designing for me, is finding the right colors. This one has a spunky palette, and the print feels so different than what we’re seeing right now in athletic wear."

How do you want women to feel when they put each piece on? "EleVen is built on the idea that you gotta be better than your best and keep pushing. I want women to feel empowered when they put on my collection—like they are an 11 out of 10, and can take on the world."

What’s your favorite piece? "It’s too hard to pick just one. When you design a collection, you pour your heart into it so each piece is going to resonate with you. That said, I’m all about my leggings and sports bras. They have the best support no matter how intense your workout is. The fit is just right!"

How is this collection different from the ones you've designed before?"I mean, I’m biased but they keep getting better and better. Fit always comes first, but the collections are feeling more fashion-forward too. There’s this mash-up of classy and spunky that defined the Ikat collection, and that vibe carried through the whole spring-summer season for EleVen."

Both you and your sister, Serena, have clothing lines. Do you ever sit down and design things together? “Yes! I was so proud when she launched her line, Serena, and we’re always bouncing ideas around about who our girl is and what she wants from our lines. She and I support each other.”

How did you get into fashion? Was it always something you were interested in? "YES! It’s why I got a degree in fashion. I wanted to take my love of it one step further and really understand everything involved in the design process, from sketching to producing. Last year was a highlight for me—I officially became a member with the Council of Fashion Designers of America (CFDA). It’s the highest honor for a designer, and I’m proud of that.”

What else are you working on right now? “The next step for EleVen is world domination. We’ve never been more ready and excited for what’s to come!”
